Eloise Kwan (BA), exchange student in Sweden, “Communicating with my mentor, Mr. Emil Lindbald, gave me a clearer vision for the future and strengthened my resolve to pursue my passion. He encouraged me to do what I truly enjoy and am willing to dedicate my time to, rather than living solely to meet others’ expectations. This perspective has helped me find my own direction clearly and has reinforced that external pressure will not influence me. Furthermore, he shared his own Hong Kong exchange experience, which gave me a sense of the diversity and value of cultural exchange. Coincidentally, I love gourmet dim sum just like him, and with that small shared interest, our informal conversations were filled with fun and pleasure.
Mr. Emil also patiently listened to the challenges I faced living in a foreign country, offering practical advice and emotional support. This reassured me as I adjusted to the unfamiliar environment. His care and guidance significantly boosted my confidence and independence, allowing me to face challenges more proactively and truly appreciate the value of mentors and helpful friends.
We enjoyed traditional Swedish fika at a café that day. Mr. Emil and I discussed the cultural impact I experienced living in Sweden, as well as my thoughts and reflections on the future. He listened patiently and shared his own experiences, which made me feel supported and encouraged. I am very grateful that he took the time out of his busy schedule to meet with me and treat me to afternoon tea, allowing me to immerse myself in the unique Swedish fika culture. This photo not only commemorates our wonderful exchange but also symbolizes the valuable connections and inspiration I gained during my exchange.
