Beyond Inspiration

Mentee Dana Lee came to HKU as a full year exchange student from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan. She embarked on the HKU Mentorship Journey hoping for some guidance during her exchange and gained far more than what she expected from her mentor Mr Keiji Fujimoto.

Dana: “I really appreciate having Keiji San as my mentor. I’m so lucky to be his mentee for many reasons. For example, during the pandemic, when everyone was afraid to gather, … he made efforts to stay connected and we were still able to meet up after doing a test prior to the meet-up. I was able to discuss with my mentor about my studies, career path and my life. My mentor advised me on how to approach my goal and would always cheer me up during my studies in Hong Kong (as an exchange student).”

Mentor Mr Keiji Fujimoto invited Dana to an early Christmas home gathering

“My mentor inspires me to help people, and to be kind and willing to transfer knowledge to other people. He really enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience in his field to the next generation, and is happy to see their success and is willing to support them when they are in need.

As an International Relations student, I see different ways of contributing to my society. However, my mentor showed me that there are many ways to help the society, and that he chose to do it from a business perspective. There are so many things I learnt from him, soft skills, communication, work-life balance, language practices… I could not describe them all.”

“Thank you mentor for everything, I hope that one day I can help my mentee as you inspired me.
