From knowing to rethinking

“I have learnt a lot and been inspired from the long chats during dinners with Gary, our mentor. Gary, as a talent in different fields with multiple titles, provided us many unique viewpoints, which have broadened my horizons — from knowing little to knowing more, from knowing something to rethinking something. He also proactively helped us with our careers, with his wisdom and broad connections in different fields. By understanding my interest in the sports field, he encouraged me to volunteer as an intern in the charity he founded — InspiringHK Sports Foundation. This working experience was fruitful, by acquiring more knowledge and skills that have added value to myself, which further assisted me to gain the following internship as well.

Gary is intelligent, genuine, and like a friend to us. He is eager to share with us his extraordinary ideas, which always expanded our understanding about, for example, politics, education and equality. His open-mindedness also allows us to freely express our ideas, and have dynamic intellectual exchanges. Even though he is very busy, he kept up with us through dining and WhatsApp, and in addition to some serious matters, we also shared a lot about interesting topics such as vacations and life in general.” Kristy Poon (BA) with Mentor Mr Gary Wong (left) and fellow mentee Jonathan Wong (BA&LLB, right).
