Better planning for future

“My mentor Jean connected me with her colleagues who are working in my field. One of them is a seasoned researcher in immunology who was about to embark on her PhD journey when I met her. After hearing why she chose to do a PhD, I became more certain about what I can do in research and thus more determined about doing a PhD. The other one was a senior manager who has experience in both academia and industry. From her sharing, I have a better idea of what working in the industry feels like and I am more able to make an informed decision regarding my plans after studies.

Also Jean introduced me to the cultural side of Singapore. She has took me to different restaurants, art galleries and museums in Singapore and we had a great time together. She is very positive and always willing to share her experience, feelings and resources with me. When we chatted, she never talked down to me like a teacher but talked with me as a friend and a peer. I really enjoyed the time I spent with her during my one-year overseas exchange in Singapore.” Mentee Anna (left), Science student in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology on exchange at the National University of Singapore, with mentor Ms Jean Ghulam
