[Illinois] Feeling reassured

“My mentor, Professor Angela Y. Lee, made sure I felt comfortable at my host institution (Northwestern University) and was always kind to offer her support if I ever needed it. For example, she offered to drive me to go shopping when I first arrived in snowy Chicago. She also gave me her contact details in case I ever found myself in urgent need of help. This was very reassuring to me as it was my first time living alone abroad for such a long period of time, and it was also my first time visiting the mid-west US.

I enjoyed meeting with Angela and catching up over lunch. She has so much wisdom and experience to share and it was wonderful hearing her perspective on issues. Her familiarity with Hong Kong also brought me a great deal of comfort as she used references that reminded me of home! Angela invited me to her office at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She gave me a tour of the building with its impressive architecture, and we got lunch together at the cafeteria. I was really privileged to spend time chatting with her during her busy lunch break!”
