Multicultural experience

“I have benefitted from the mentoring by learning how to achieve success and to be patient when you are working towards your own goals. My mentor was a translator and writer from Japan before she became a stay-at-home mother. She kindly shared her experience working in the translation and writing field and offered advice to me when she heard about my interest in becoming a writer in the future. She was very willing to share her experience, talk about the difficulties she encountered, and listen to our stories. We had a wonderful cultural and knowledge exchange, especially since my mentor and another mentee are both from Japan.

It was a surprise for me to meet international friends, my fellow mentee and mentor, and we travelled to Wong Tai Sin Temple together to get to know Hong Kong better. My mentor is very friendly and gave us copies of her works; we plan to meet up during the summer.”

1. Mrs Lindsay, invited her mentees, Sally Kwan (right) and Moe Matsunaga (left), to Thanksgiving Dinner with her family at the American Club.
2. Mrs Lindsay and Moe attended a show performed by the Hong Kong Shax Theatre Group at Yuet Ming Auditorium, HKU.  Sally was the production’s Crew Captain and Translation Chief, “Sally worked as a translator, which must be a great contribution because her bilingual ability is quite high. My husband Craig also enjoyed the show. Thank you, Sally.”

Mentor: Mrs Mie Okabe Lindsay
