Like a mother in Hong Kong

“HKU Mentorship has been an amazing experience. My mentor Jill is very caring, generous and intelligent. She has not just been a mentor in terms of my professional development, but she has also been like a mother in Hong Kong to me. I have benefitted in so many ways.

She was always so nice and giving as well as very helpful with any questions I had or advice I needed. I had a lot of fun with her and with the other mentees. She also took the time to introduce me to her family and helped me find a summer internship in Hong Kong. She took time to show us the city and took us to very nice places. I am so happy I joined this programme and would absolutely recommend it to everyone. Any future mentees of Jill will be lucky to have her!” Ana, exchange student from the University of Glasgow, UK.

“I got to share with Jill some thoughts about myself, whether it was about my HKU experience, my past experiences, or my uncertainties. It was also very beneficial to me that my mentor introduced me to people who she thought would be experienced in the fields I’m interested in, and I had very interesting conversations with them.” Xu Wenxi, exchange student from the University of Virginia, USA.

Mentor: Mrs Jill Gallie
Incoming Exchange Mentees (2018-19): Ana Bacallado Almandoz and Xu Wenxi
