Stimulating conversations

“My mentor Mr Fan is very open-minded and is very willing to discuss politics and his world views with us! It’s been great hearing about Mr Fan’s experiences, especially his world travels. Mr Fan has also been very kind by connecting us with his previous mentees, so we’ve been able to meet people in different disciplines and works. I’ve greatly enjoyed each meet-up!

At the beginning of the year, we met up to kick start the new semester for myself and the other undergraduate mentee, Kim Seo Young, with some local Chinese food. We talked about our Christmas and New Year plans and what we had done. Besides the three of us, there were also two previous mentees – one is now a doctor and the other a clinical psychologist. It was wonderful hearing about their work experience.

I also met up with Mr Fan, Mrs Fan and some other of his previous mentees over the Christmas break. It was a wonderful gathering, and it was lovely discussing with Mrs Fan and one new mother who joined the gathering what different parenting styles work and how growing up in a different culture might impact a child’s mindset and beliefs. We also talked about films from the past that have accurately predicted the future – and these were all wonderful conversations.”
