Grateful for the support

“My mentor, Mee Jin Chen, shared with me her experiences in the financial field and living in the United States while keeping her Chinese roots. She mentioned things to explore in the US and things to be concerned about at University of Southern California as the neighbourhood area is quite dangerous. She advised me to keep meeting new people at USC and learn about their culture and the different academic environment. During a group lunch with other HKU alumni, they shared their work experiences. One of them talked about selling Levi’s jeans as an individual seller while competing with large retailers, and others talked about places to eat good Hong Kong food in Los Angeles, all of which were interesting stories. Another mentor, Dr Peter Poon, also took me and another mentee to visit Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

Through this Mentorship Programme, I am grateful to have had someone to provide useful advice when I first arrived in the US and was still adapting to a completely new environment. They also shared LA history while we exchanged cultural experiences through our meaningful conversations.” Li Yin at lunch with mentor Ms Chen Mee Jin and her husband Mr David Leong.
