Commitment to society

“My mentor, Mr Mak Chai Ming, is a retired system engineer. An energetic and kind gentleman, he always shares his life experience and wisdom generously with me. He has made me think about how to balance my personal ambition and social responsibility, as well as my plan for my future career. He provided me precious opportunities to know fantastic people from other generations and backgrounds, and he also made me feel that us younger generation has been entrusted with the responsibility to improve society.

In sharing his life with me, he told me a lot of intriguing stories and the tips toward success, like the transition from a fresh graduate to a valued employee, how he learnt from trial and error in workplace, the importance of networking and teamwork, as well as his continuous self-evaluation to improve himself. Mr Mak is an exceptional gentleman, not only because of his success in business, but because of his consistent commitment to Hong Kong society. He can talk lucidly and openly about a variety of social, economic, and political topics, always willing to hear different opinions and facilitate constructive conversations. I believe his ingenuity and realistic visions can certainly inspire young people from all backgrounds.”
