Guided Tour of Hong Kong Jewish Cemetery<\/strong>

Mr Howard Elias from the Jewish Community in Hong Kong, gave an exclusive docent tour of the Hong Kong Jewish Cemetery (est 1855) in Happy Valley, for a group of mentors and mentees.<\/p>\n

Every stone reflects the Jewish culture, religion and the history of Jews in Hong Kong. Mentors and mentees were intrigued by the stories and anecdotes of the well-known such as Kadoorie<\/span><\/span>(\u5609\u9053\u7406),\u00a0 Belilios<\/span><\/span> (\u5e87\u7406\u7f85\u58eb), Sassoon<\/span><\/span> (\u6c99\u5ba3)…and the less well-known alike. <\/span><\/p>\n

The group also enjoyed a chance encounter with Mrs Molly Odell<\/span><\/span>, daughter-in-law of the late Harry Odell (\u6b50\u5fb7\u79ae) who founded the historic Empire Theatre (now State Theatre \u7687\u90fd\u6232\u9662<\/span><\/span>). Mrs Molly Odell was being filmed for a documentary in the cemetery where her ancestors were laid to rest. The old home of the Odell family, Old Alberose, is now a property of the University of Hong Kong.<\/p>\n
