\u201cI feel like I was really welcomed by my mentor, Dr Henry Yeung, and I also had a chance to meet other mentees and mentors through this programme. Dr Yeung is a member of HKUAA of Victoria, Australia, which organises activities every month, and Dr Yeung would invite mentees to join these gatherings. He explained everything we wanted to know about Melbourne and cultural adaptation. During Chinese New Year, Dr Yeung invited me to a gathering where I had a chance to mingle with other mentors and alumni, and listen to their stories. We also did activities like describing Chinese characters. As I am not from Hong Kong, it was a great opportunity for me to learn about another culture. From this Mentorship Programme, I felt very well-supported not only in my cultural adaptation to Australia as my mentor gave so many good suggestions, but also in emotional support as I felt like I was at home through meeting him.\u201d Lai Win Lai (Bed Year 3) from Myanmar, who was on exchange at Monash University, Australia.<\/p>\n

Another mentee of Dr Yeung, Amanda Leung (BEng(CivE) Year 3) shared, \u201cI benefitted a lot from Dr Yeung as he shared much about his past. I realised that life is unpredictable and full of many opportunities. Dr Yeung, who is a medical doctor, has changed his career path bravely from undertaking training in anatomical pathology at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong to cytopathology in Australia. He then decided to contribute to the development of a cytopathology service in Hong Kong and to the opening of its only laboratory. I have learnt from Dr Yeung\u2019s story not to restrict my potential and not follow traditional paths like others. Be open-minded and be prepared all the time as opportunities may come in a sudden and my life path may change out of all my expectations\u201d.<\/p>\n
