Getting energetic with my mentor

“I am very thankful to Dr Ma for helping me and spending time with me during the exchange. Well before I arrived in Toronto, she sent me a very warm welcoming message and kept in contact with me. She suggest that we have a meal together once I arrived at Toronto. Because we both studied at HKU and my host institution, the University of Toronto, we had plenty of topics to chat with. Not only she shared with me about her work and experience of moving from Hong Kong to Toronto, we also chatted a lot about the current issues in the two cities. I am very grateful for all of these conversations. I guess what makes mentorship fruitful is not simply about a mentor teaching a mentee, but it is also about mutual sharing. I am glad that this did happen throughout my mentorship experience.

Dr Ma was very active and energetic. She invited me to go on a boat trip and hiking with her. I would not had the chances to join all these activities had she not invited me. I am most impressed that Dr Ma is a certified skiing coach! You can see how energetic she is! Even though Dr Ma was busy with her work, she was always responsive to my emails or messages. I know she really care about her mentees.
